1. Introduction
The ECR-6100 is a compact rotating electrode apparatus supporting a wide rotation speed range of 80–8000 rpm. The rotating section and the control section are separate and lightweight, enabling a broad range of experiments.
The axis of the ECR-6100 control section can be held at any angle. It can therefore be tilted by approximately 45° to remove bubbles generated during measurement, or rotated 180° to replace a spin coater for applying and dispersing catalyst materials.
Thanks to its brushless motor, the device is maintenance-free and is equipped with safety functions. It continuously monitors the condition of the rotating section and issues an alarm if an abnormality occurs. In addition, the shaft and the motor are coupled through an insulating mechanism to reduce noise.
Electrodes can be selected from the rotating disk electrode (RDE), the rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE) and the rotating electrode sample holder, and can be combined with a variety of cells according to the application.

2. Applications
Typical applications of the ECR-6100 include:
- Quantitative analysis of the number of reaction electrons and the charge transfer rate;
- Quality control of electroplating bath additives;
- Elucidation of metal corrosion phenomena;
- Evaluation of fuel cell catalyst performance, etc.
3. Features
3.1 Compact Design
The installation area is space-saving, roughly the size of an A4 sheet. The rotating section and the control section are separate and weigh approximately 4 kg and 0.9 kg respectively — light enough to hold in one hand, which expands the range of experiments.
3.2 Inert Gas Purge of the Shaft
The shaft is purged with inert gas, which controls the atmosphere inside the cell and also suppresses damage to the rotating parts caused by the vapor of organic solvents and acids.
3.3 Remote Control
In addition to manual control, remote control from a PC is available. Rotation can be controlled through external commands, and also by applying a voltage to the external input terminal.

- Inert Gas Purge Mechanism (Shaft Section)
A mechanism discharges inert gas from a tube onto the shaft, allowing the atmosphere inside the cell to be controlled. It also reduces the damage that organic-solvent and acid vapor can cause to the motor and bearings, improving the durability of the control unit.

5. Multiple Rotation Control Modes
Start/stop can be set and controlled manually from the front panel. In addition, the device can be remotely controlled from a PC via USB using the supplied control software, and can be extended for synchronized control with our P/G stat (ECstat series).
Rotation can also be controlled by external commands from devices equipped with RS-232C. Because rotation can be controlled by applying a voltage to the external input terminal, and because the rotation speed is output as a voltage, the device can also be controlled from equipment with voltage input/output capability.

6. Rotating Electrode Cells
Every cell has a sufficiently sealed structure and can be selected according to the application. A working electrode (RDE / RRDE / rotating electrode sample holder) can be placed at the center of each cell, and a reference electrode of 6 mm diameter, a counter electrode and inert gas purge can also be connected.
The following cell types are available:

Optional Accessories
1. 5ch Spin Coater AC900
When a different catalyst material is to be used as the rotating electrode, a thin film must be deposited on the rotating electrode. The AC900 is a spin coater that drops the catalyst material onto the electrode surface and applies it by the centrifugal force of rotation. A thin, uniform coating can be obtained on a smooth electrode surface. The film thickness depends on the rotation speed and can be adjusted by controlling the speed.
It is equipped with an anti-splash cover that prevents splashing during rotation. There are five rotating electrode mounting points, so five electrodes can be coated at the same time. It has a timer and a simple setting screen.

- Glovebox Flange Cable

The glovebox flange cable is a bulkhead cable used to install the ECR-6100 inside a glovebox and connect it to the controller outside the box. It is waterproof and sealed, so an inert gas atmosphere can be maintained inside the glovebox. If an unused flange in the glovebox is specified, the cable is customized to the same flange shape. The glovebox flange cable consists of a flange, a cable and a connector; please specify the flange shape when ordering.
3. Light Stage (Illumination Stage)
By replacing the base plate of the rotation control unit, light can be irradiated onto the disk surface.
Measurements under light irradiation are possible by using the quartz photo-illumination rotating electrode cell VR500.

4. Electrodes (RDE / RRDE)
Two types are available: the rotating disk electrode (RDE) and the rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE). The electrode body is made of PEEK, which has excellent chemical resistance, and is compact (13 mm diameter × 30 mm). It can be easily mounted on the rotating part by screw-in.
The RDE has a disk electrode made of glassy carbon (GC), gold (Au) or platinum (Pt), while the RRDE has a platinum ring electrode; the disk electrode can be selected from GC, Au or Pt. The T series is also available, in which a PTFE guide is embedded around the RDE to provide water resistance.

5. Rotating Electrode Sample Holder
Any electrode material can be used as the electrode material of the rotating electrode. Metallic materials, catalyst-loaded electrodes, FTO and ITO are also supported.
The reaction area is defined by an O-ring with an inner diameter of 5 mm. There is a 0.9 mm recess from the bottom of the holder to the electrode surface. Electrodes of φ6.5–14.5 mm or φ6.5–10 mm or smaller, with a thickness of 1.1 mm or less, can be used.
Note: The eccentricity during rotation varies depending on how each part is screwed in and on the shape and parallelism of the sample. Thank you for your understanding.
